My childhood memoir revolves around a cinema because my parents used to run a movie snack stall next to the cinema. Until now, I can still remember bits and pieces of the sweet and bitter things that happened over the years. The cinema was officially shut down when I was in primary 4 '10 years old' and I remember watching the last movie shown that night. It was devastating and being so young, I sense sadness in the eyes of everyone. I'm going to list down what I can recall before I forget them.

The People
1. Ah Moi Ee - The ticket counter (i remember she bought me a bracelette)
2. Another untie who are slimmer and more fierce. I was afraid of her
3. Ah Lau - The ticket collector who also sleeps in the lobby of the cinema. I used to see him every morning when we walk to the breakfast place.
4. The Fat drink stall tauke at the food court behind the cinema. (This was where Ellen told me story about the most work in a company is office boy but usually he is first to go if economy is bad).
5. The Rex Cucur tauke - My aunt used to work for him and then she opens her own stall
6. Michael - The boy i played with and his mum can make 'Kueh Sepit' aka 'Love Letter' and he is staying behind the cinema next tot he super smelly toilet. I went to their house alot too.
7. The chines girl - I remember her mum opens hawker stall at the food court but i have no idea what her name is until now.
8. The sugarcanne family - his son was my classmate in kindergarden and form 4 and 5.
9. Ah Hia - owner of another hawker stall opposite the sugarcanne family.
10. The stall operator inside the cinema premise - I can't remember him much coz my dad prevent us to play inside the cinema premise much.
11. Ah Kheng - Her family lives somewhere next to Dr Chan clinic and they moved to KMC flat after they got the placement from MBKS.

The Sweet & Bitter Memories
1. Self made singing competition - It was with my cousin Diana and the chinese girl. We will win a drawing painted by the chinese girl. We used the side entrance of the cinema where there's staircase that made it looks like a stage.
2. The Reservoir Park stroll - I have always been going to the park with my cousin and his brother. It's without my dad's permission. We just kinda found our way there and I get to call these 2 old couple at the corner of the demolished role of shop in front of the demolished prison opposite Borneo Hotel and they will give me 10 cent. :D
3. Watching Free movies - Sometimes Ah Lau made me sing a song first.
4. Playing with the daughter of the tailor shop owner 'American Tailor'. I can't recall what we usually do but I remember I've always gone to their shop.
5. Playing with Ah Kheng - We do meet sometimes in the shopping mall as she works as a promoter now and happily married.
6. I stepped on a lot of dead caterpillar that caused me walking like handicap for at least 2 months. I got it when I was washing my leg at the side of the drain opposite dad's stall. I have to blame my dad for throwing the caterpillars there after he had killed them. He should throw right into the drain and not leaving it on the road!
7. Broke a horlick bottle on the way back after buying it with my brother at Ting & Ting Supermarket. My late 3rd aunt was furious...
8. Spitting activities with some boys and my cousins. We were scolding each other and spitting on each other. To think about it, that's when I start learning how to roll my eyes when meeting people that I don't like.
9. My eldest brother told me that the crystal like sugar is used by the Japanese to make bombs. His attention was so that i do not disturb the sugar bottle.. I felt like an idiot after i asked my dad couple years back.
10. I saw a sanitary pad with blood in the toilet thinking that the toilet is haunted coz I thought I saw a bloody flesh in the toilet bowl.
11. Believed that there's an old man died in the cinema stuck on the gate because of heart attack. (Untill now, I'm not sure if it's real)

Egret

The first time I've seen an egret in the drain was about 10 years ago. That time, my family was staying in Jalan Stampin. I still remember being so fascinated to see it as it reminds me of my aunt, 'Ongako' whom's chinese name is related to the egret and I kept teasing her everytime I see egrets since.

The sad truth is that seeing egret in the drain or in the street is not a good sign. It shows that the bird that is suppose to live with the nature has now moved to the urban city and there must be reasons for it. I've been seeing plenty of egrets in the street these days on my way to work. Hopefully, their population is not going extinct.

Thai Food Crave

.:Pork Rinds in a Container:.

Since my last Thailand trip in October 2011, I've always wanted to make my own Thai style pork rinds 'Kaeb Moo' as comparing to the ones I had here which is so hard it might break my tooth. The pork rinds in Kuching are made as one of the ingredient for soup and the one in Thailand is made as snacks. It has a the super crunchy texture and at the same time it's not too oily after being deep fried and drained properly.

I made some research through youtube.com and found out that it's also a popular snack in the Philipines. They are called with different names. The video shown below is basically what I did but i added in some 5 spices powder, salt, pepper and chilli powder to add a twist of spiciness to it.

I am quite happy with the result and everyone who ate it were also happy coz Pork is the happiest meat of all. Everytime anyone mentioning Pork, the rest will put a big smile on their face with their eyes glowing. Perhaps this is a muslim country customary where they are eating places that do not sell pork and even work places that do not allow their staffs to bring Pork into the premises in respect to the muslims.

It's an evident of a natural human behaviour. The more you control them in something, the more they are excited to do it. Who knows... we might not love Pork that much and treat it equal to other meat if Pork is everywhere in everyshop. We'll never know...

Superstitous me

I have always believe in Karma 'What goes around, comes around' and I also believe that we cannot avoid others from being jealous of us on anything at all and people that always try to harm us for many reasons, whether it's for valid reasons or just plain stupidity.

As a Chinese, knowing that this year, the water dragon year is conflicting with the people who are born in the year of dog. Being superstitous, I tend to feel that I need to be especially careful, lotsa lucks, saviours and secret friends to go through this year smoothly. Be it in professional life or personal life.

As a taoist or buddhist or whatever anyone wants to call it 'There's always confusion between Buddhism and Taoism teachings', I feel that I really need some luck and protection from the god almighty. So I prayed to the tiger god and will return to the temple in March. I did the ritual with two cute paper men i cut myself and dad wrote the chinese characters which means Saviour and Backstabber. I ignored the crowd in the temple and hit the white one hardly and loudly with my slipper 3 times so the backstabber will 'get it' when they try to act funny... muahahaha 'evil laugh'.

The ritual of hitting the little paper man is not popular in my hometown. I guess, it's typhical Kuchingites thing.. if it's not a trend, people will be too ashame to do it. For me, anything that can bring me the positive affections, I'll throw myself into it as long as it doesn't involve actions that can harm my body or a big hole in my pockets. hehehe

29th Birthday

Naturally, I love parties but i have stop binge drinking and often visit to the clubs. The most I do perhaps is visit to Karaoke Lounge once in a while where I can chat with some friends on personal or business stuff. It's still a good time to spend if you have some good close friends.

My birthday falls on the 3rd day of Chinese New Year so I have decided to throw a small party at my place with close friends and relatives. It's really a small apartment but on usual days, it's enough for 1 to 2 persons to stay in. So far, I haven't have the feeling to move in the apartment but I visit it quite often now since it's just 2 minutes drive away from where I'm staying now.

Chinese New Year Mood

As for the last 2 years we were not in Kuching celebrating Chinese New Year, This year I'm in a good mood to do major painting for my parents house and also patching up my own apartment. At my parents house, mostly are painting works and as for my own place, more to fixing the broken pipe, lightings, making more power sockets and decorating it for the birthday party I'm throwing on the 3rd day of Chinese New Year.

Having to spend my year end in Bario although my bestie can't make it coz her leave was not approved by her evil boss, I had to go since my ticket was bought. It was not a bad idea as I made 2 new friends who are nice... yes, when I say nice, it means Great. The entire idea of having my holiday in Bario was to have a good break out of Kuching's party madness. Well honestly, it was quite mad also in Bario.

New Taste in BDC A1 Kopitiam

I have to admit that almost every Saturday or Sunday I will visit BDC A1 kopitiam for breakfast although it's no where near Desa Wira, Batu Kawa... This is because I have always think that they serve the best Popiah, best Kueh Chap and best & only half cooked egg Cha Kueh (by request) in Kuching. The Kolo Mee is not bad at all. All these food might not be the best for others but it definitely suits my taste buds well.

Me and couple good friends first dined there back in 2007 because Brian's dad sells 'Cha Kueh', fried yam cake there and Brian intoduces half cooked egg Cha Kueh which has became my all time favourite since then.

Yesterday, I went with dad and realized that the Roti Canai stall has changed people. Thank God coz the previous 2 stall operator's Roti Canai sux and a better taste Roti Canai can encourage dad to join me for breakfast in A1 more coz he loves Murtabak. After trying the Sardin Murtabak 'RM4.00' (although dad prefers Lamb Murtabak more, it's not in the menu), it's not bad at all. So I guess, there's good chance that we will be ordering roti canai in A1 in the next trip.

The Poolside Xmas Party

We had a casual office gathering on 17th December with gift exchange at Upper Sanctuary Poolside. Everyone chipped in some money for the food and we came out with some western dishes as shown in the photos below. Overall, it was a relaxing Saturday instead of a Crazy Party. We enjoyed ourselves with little chit chat session off work and some work related matters which was totally unavoided since we all spent most of our times at work. I love little activities like this as it bonds the relationship between colleagues and friends. :)

Skype moment with Ba'kelalan

Ba'kelalan is a remote area in the Heart of Borneo where the 'Lun Bawang' a local etnic group stays. The flight to Ba'kelalan is only 3 times a week on a twin otter by MasWing. It is a nice and cool place to visit if you are into the nature and to learn more about the culture of the people there. More about Ba'kelalan, please visit HERE.

UNIMAS, the local university in Sarawak has a project there on tele-centre to help the local communities to be connected to the world. As I made good friends there, I had the first skype session with 2 of the community leaders there. The village head and area chieftain of the village. It was short and sweet but we were all very happy to see each other online. The most memorable question was 'Where are you now?' I guess that was to confirm that I was really in Kuching and not nearby.

It was indeed a historical moment in life.

Permanent Eyeliner & Laser

Once in a while, I'll do something to my face as Facial Improvement. Not as serious as cosmetic surgery but more to like permanent colours, facial etc. This time, I choosed to do a permanent eyeliner colour so I do not have to bother not using eyeliner ended up looking like I've just cried the night before. I also lasered off the oil pimples block on the left side of my nose which has been bothering me since about 10 years ago...

But it'll be gone after the skin heal in a week time and hopefully I'll not be stubborn to be sun tanning under the sun anymore since my dry skin can't really take direct sun which was causing the freckles and all that. :)

2012’s New Year Resolution

OK this is the time of the year I will be jotting down my resolutions for next year. Looking at my existing resolutions there’s at least a few of the resolutions accomplished. Good enough to do a little celebration for myself.

Let’s look at last year’s resolutions…

MY 2011'S RESOLUTION!

1) Get a MAC Book... Need to start brushing up my illustrator and photoshop skills. (Not accomplished but currently using a notebook with photoshop)

2) Get a Brand New Car. (Accomplished!)

3) Enroll to a Tailoring Class.. who knows you'll be hearing designer brand in 5 years! LOL (This is going to be scrapped OFF as my travelling and working schedule doesn't seem to make this resolution realistic)

4) To reach and maintain below 55Kgs (YES & NO… trying to maintain)

5) To pay all my bills on time... (I've always procastinate!) (YES & NO… trying to maintain)

SO AS FOR 2012, it will be more relaxed like...

1) Continue to maintain below 55Kg.

2) To continue to pay my bills ON TIME.

3) To cope up with sufficient and consistent savings every month. I am bad in controling my expenditure... It's hard to be a smart shopper when you try to own everything at 1 time. hehehe

4) Over the weekends or free time, always do something that cheer myself up such as a pampering good massage, hairdo, facial, weekend cookings/bakings, road trip, beaching, planting the greens etc.

I guess, as year passed by my resolutions are getting lesser and lesser. Hmm.. it's not a bad or good thing. Just reminding myself I am pretty satisfied with many things in life.

Xmas Lighting 2011

Hmm... although I'm not Christian, I have been attending Xmas Lighting Ceremony almost every year throughout my working life in hotel industry. I remembered last year was one of the best one with good crowd and an inpromtu opening remarks by YOU KNOW WHO... Overall, it was great! But having to leave the hotel less than 1 month after that to join my current workplace is a little sad coz I still misses the joy of working in a hotel. (Can't blame me, I was working in hotel industries for 7 years...)

Stephen's Birthday Dinner @ Blablabla

Had a dinner with Stephen in Blablabla on 1^st December 2011 to celebrate his birthday since I've promised him a month ago. As usual, this is my favourite place to bring people for special occasion because of the nice ambience of the place and not too crowded.

We only ordered the lambchop with black pepper, Midin Salad and a piece of Strawberry Cheese Cake since I am on DIET as usual.

The lambchop with blackpepper sauce is more to the sweet side. I guess since it's a chinese fushion cuisine, it will not be what's expected from the normal lambchop with black pepper sauce but I like it cause the taste is just right for my taste buds although I only ate a few little pieces. T_T

I didn't take the photo of the Midin Salad which was RM13 or RM16 if not mistaken because I was too hungry and since the Midin Salad has always been my favourite, I forgotten totally about the photo. It's a mildly boiled midin marinated with olive oil, red onion, lime, pinch of salt, chilli etc. A little bit like how people marinate raw fish called 'Umai'.

Overall with drinks & papaya + peanut appertizer, the damage done was RM87 which was already expected anyway. For the nice ambience and good food, a little over price is acceptable especially for special occasions.

November is a blissful month

Singapore Trip

I've travelled to Singapore with dad, Ongako, Ah Ing & Siaw Ying to attend Cheng's Ragistration of Marriage.. yes it's REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGE... another one in the family tied the knot. Now it's already 4 out of 7 and only left me, Siaw Ying & Ah Ing.. ahahahahahhaa (Laughing like spongebob)... the married ones don't be too happy coz it also means GAME OVER.. ahahahahhaa (Laughing like spongebob again).

Anyway, it was a good trip overall as we stayed at Chinatown area in Singapore and i managed to do some shopping for the decoration in my apartment. Oh well, the star is my brother and new sister in law, Mrs Ng 'Jaslyn'.

So happened that Elephant Parade was going on in Singapore at the time we were there and I love elephants... Lucky! The Elephant Parade is the world’s largest open air art exhibition of decorated elephant statues that seeks to attract public awareness and support for Asian elephant conservation. Manukan, Sabah

The week after, I also went to Manukan in Sabah with some collegues & ex-colleagues. It was a day trip as it's just a small island where people can picnic and spend some quality time together. I didn't know that snorkeling can be so much fun. I came back nicely tanned with nice complexion.

The day started at Jesselton Port which is just next to Parkson Suria, KK. The price for a return speedboat per person is RM24 or slightly more depending on the boatman.

Wedding in Kuching...

Apart from travelling, I didn't miss one of my best buddy's wedding. Although we seldom meet now & busy with our own career & life, the 2 years of college life together was never forgotten and the bond built was for eternity. 4 of us, Leong, Hsiang, Yen & I... Oh well, Leong is married with 1 daughter, Hsiang just got married & Yen is getting married in January... What the hell, i don't give in to peer pressure. Enjoying my single & workout life! Anyway, I'm so happy for all of them.

Speaking of which, I've been working out hard lately after the eating spree in Bangkok which brought me REGRETNESS... I'm targeting and doing at least 30 minutes workout a day and cutting down on sugar, carbohydrate & oily food which basically cutting down on everything inclusive of skipping dinner replacing it with fiber supplement. hehehe

5 days in Bangkok with Schoolmates

I recently visited Bangkok for the first time with 5 others schoolmates and their spouse. It was a ‘Follow Your Heart’ trip as I was too busy at work and didn’t have much time to browse through places to visit and hotels booking were all through www.AsiaRooms.com. One Quote for Bangkok ‘Heaven of Pork!’

The first day we reached Bangkok was already midnight. At the airport, take (Meter Taxi) which is actually airport transfer. For a Toyota Avanza, fit for 5-6 ppl 700baht to Sukhumvit Area.

Since it was late when we reached Unico Express, we just checked in and rest for the next day Chatuchak weekend market adventure on Sunday. I’ve heard from many that Chatuchak is so big you won’t finish walking around it over the weekends and the things are cheap. I couldn't be disagreed more with that statement. I bought some flower bulbs and hope that it will grow and I’ll be the first Tulips & Hyacinth supplier in Sarawak.. Just wait & see…

The 3^rd day, we hired a driver Mr Wistu. The taxi driver from the airport who looks descent and fatherly. We went on a trip to the oldest & most touristy floating market, Damnoen Saduak. The whole day car hiring is 2000baht and it gets expensive when he drop us in one of the boat hiring agent that is about 2km away from the market and we sat on a boat that cost 1000baht per head. I am sure it will be cheaper for travelers who visit the market via bus and hire smaller boat from the market. But it’s ok, we’re tourists anyway and tourists are meant to be slaughtered wherever they go for the benefits of the local communities.

The road trip from Bangkok to the market is about 1hour 45 minutes and the visit to Damnoen Saduak was great but can be better if it’s not raining heavily. We were so hungry that we preferred to eat than to shop and we were eating and shopping all the way. Janet took her time bargaining with the shop owner and we enjoyed watching the both of them. Luckily we had a good boatman who didn’t felt anxious to bring us back to the boat agent place. I think maybe he enjoys some commission as well but we don’t mind at all as long as everyone is happy. :D

After the floating market, Mr Wistu brought us to the Elephant Riding place about 2km to 3km from the floating market and the fee to ride on an elephant for less than 10 minutes is 400baht per person. It’s a worthwhile experience but I had a slight headache coz the experience of sitting on top on the elephant was like having a car emergency breaking every 5 seconds. Maybe I ate too much at the floating market earlier.

We skipped the Rose Garden coz nobody was interested in the cultural sense of Thailand and everybody was worrying about not be able to shop enough. As Crispin was looking for AAA imitation club and country jerseys since Chatuchak Market, we have asked the driver to bring us to a place where we can buy it sacrificing the Rose Garden. He brought us to the shop lots next to the National Stadium and indeed it was not a bad place at all coz there were plenty of cheap jerseys ranging from 100baht to 350baht depending on the quality of the fabrics.

At night, we called Bank the tattoo artist to ink Eric & I. He came at around 7pm and left at midnight because it took a while for us to decide what to ink and I believe he is a holy Buddhist coz he refused to ink spiritual mantra for me which I tried to get a way with from the monk that cost 8000baht to 10000baht which is RM800 – RM1,000… I got mine in my home town where the headhunters used to live at only RM80! But the price from bank was reasonable from 1500baht to 3000baht for small tattoos depending on the design.

And so that was the end of our 3^rd day in Bangkok without drinking session nor Ping Pong show nor Tiger show… I was really not interested coz I feel disgusted even when I heard the stories.

On the 4^th day, we checked out from Unico Express and had bad experience checking out due to the housekeeping has confused with the 3 rooms minibar and we were unhappy about mineral water in the room which we didn’t consumed and charged. I refused to pay and the receptionist sarcastically said to me ‘Never mind Mem, I will pay for you’ That really got on my nerves as I came from hotel line and I believe that’s a lie and sense of sarcasm for Thailand ‘THE LAND OF SMILE’ fuck that quote. But anyway, we didn’t let small small things spoilt our day and I took note on writing pretty NICE review in trip advisor and Asia rooms when I got to Malaysia.

We check in to H-Residence, a hotel under pre-opening period with nice decoration, nice rooms and good but inexperience staffs who really tried hard to give the best shots. I love this hotel. Although it’s quite hidden, they provide free tuk-tuk service for guests to the BTS train station.

After check-in, we decided to visit the Grand Palace and maybe some temples depending on our strength since we have size S – XXL in the group and everyone was considerate among each other… haha

The Grand Palace’s entrance is 600baht per person and no singlet, tight pant/skinny jean or shorts are allowed. If you happened to be wearing the forbidden clothing, they have the attire to borrow when you walk into the palace. Don’t fall into the trap to rent clothing from the shops outside the Grand Palace.

The Palace itself was beautiful and the architecture was amazing. I feel great when I walked in the palace really besides the heat, everything was cool. We also prayed in the amulet Buddha temple which is inside the Grand Palace Area itself.

Right after that, Crispin had a bad headache and he felt like dying so we all have to force ourselves to go back missing the Chinatown. Actually we were very tired too and we just enjoyed blaming him for getting sick. Poor Crispin.. haha

At night, we went to Chinatown and Crispin was resting in the room coz he was sick. Unfortunately the clothing shops closed at 5pm. However, we get to try the food there and I enjoyed speaking in Teochew dialect with the Thai Chinese in the Chinatown. I like the ice-blended coconut milk with jackfruit & water-chestnut jelly and jelly dessert but not the Poh Piah and the Kueh coz they are all salty flavored. At home, we like it a little bit sweet with some dried shrimps etc. (Nyonya influence of Malaysia).

We met a Tuk-Tuk driver right next to our eating table and we asked where we can eat fried scorpion and he brought 5 of us in his tuk-tuk to Khao San Road at 100baht. Khao San Road was a cool place which I’ve missed browsing in the internet where all the pubs, bar & night scenes are. There were a lot of tourists at that area. Reminded me a little bit of Bali or Phuket at night.

On the 5^th day and my last day in Bangkok, me Crispin went to search for pharmacy early morning and bought medicine for diarrhea and bought some allergy medicine for Lyvia who complaint here body was itchy & swollen. The pharmacist warned us that the allergy medicine has sleepy and drowsy effect but we decided not to tell her so she won’t psycho felt that she was sleepy and spoiled her plans. (Indirectly, everyone’s plans).

We found a Thai Chinese shop at that area and had our porky breakfast there since Lyvia & Effendy was still sleeping. We’ll let them have their Halal food later on since Pork was so irresistible for us.

We walked from Siam Paragon to MBK which they have connected bridge for the 4 shopping malls. Since there were no discounts going on in Bangkok, the branded shops were bit too expensive comparing to Kuala Lumpur so I didn’t buy much besides food food food. We left the mall at 4.00pm and I had to packed and leave Bangkok 2 days earlier for work purposes. Damn I missed their clubbing scene that night and more shopping and sight seeing which they claimed to be so good! Damn... haha

Bangkok again? Definitely yes coz we missed Ayutthaya due to the flood of the century and there are so many other places that are not that touristy which we didn’t visit.

I believe in coincident as it happened to me once in a while. The recent incident was when 3 friends met in Crown Square without any contact in advance. One being there to get her sister's new baby gift. One being there for a sauna session. One being there for dinner... Satisfying Brunch at Pasar Baru Bukit Bintang

Since Ah Ing & I was staying in Cube Hotel along Jalan Pudu, we did a last minutes work googling places to eat around Bukit Bintang & Jalan Pudu last night coz we didn't want to ended up in touristy food outlets. We looking for something local, and traditional. The older the place is, the better. Found a few blogs on Pasar Baru Bukit Bintang.This This This This This & many more.... It was convincing enough...

Pasar Baru Bukit Bintang is a wet market with hawker stalls that are famous among the local in the heart of KL. The reason why it is located at Jalan Melati in Imbi Area but is known as Pasar Baru Bukit Bintang is because previously this wet market was located near Lot 10. Some of the famous food here are the Hainan Tea, Hainan Toast, Egg Tart, Apam Balik, Sisters Crispy Popiah, porridge and so many other varieties. We hop on a taxi from Jalan Pudu that only costs RM3.40 to go to the Market & found our way on foot (15 minutes) to Sungei Wang after a satifying brunch. Really a Lucky Sunday!

We didn't get to try the egg tart and the Pork Leg Noodle coz we were too full and for two persons to eat everything in one morning is ridiculous. One thing for sure was Ah Weng Koh's uncle waiter complaint the two of us eat too much when we ordered another toast. We felt he's just annoyed coz we hogged the table and many were standing & waited for us to finish our food. hehehe. It is also advisable to go early if you do not want to dine under the heat of colourful big umbrellas.

Definitely, we'll be going back there if I have some free time in KL again...

These days, my mind have been complaining alot to me... In everything I do, every place i go, everyone i meet.. No good No good... my mind is now very confused and have been complaining too much. So I have told my mind this 'Sorry the complain department is closed so please come back tomorrow and drop your complaints into the suggestion box which is the garbage can next to the entrance of the department'.

Why am I worrying so much and being so negative these days... must have been the Chi attracting the unnesessaries (Oh yes I am superstitious about this). Time to read up Lilian Too's bad english Feng Shui book and get a proper compass. I lost the old one. Can't find it really coz I didn't need it for a long time now...

Mama Hen Baby Ducklings

When I saw this in Ba'kelalan... First thing I did was squatting down on the roadside and start laughing and snapping. Reminds me of the cartoon Ugly Duckling which the eggs were accidentally switched. In this case, it was switched on purpose as the villagers believe that Hen takes better care of its baby than mama Duck.

Apart from the ducks I actually seen alot in Ba'kelalan due to the flight schedule. There's only 3 flights per week and it's the smallest plane of Malaysian Airlines.

Breakup

Someone mentioned BREAKUP 2days ago and someone-else ended up in Timberland Specialist Centre last night. It is very serious and of course it's not me. My time of believing that there's true love has ended several years ago because the heart was broken, shattered and too ridiculous to be mended. But of course I didn't end up in a hospital last time...

I just don't get it that some people still believe in that stupid little thing call LOVE. The bitchiest thing of all is that I AM afraid to be hurt again and so, I denied that I fell and should standup and walk again with pride. I'm not stupid but I'm just still very angry and hold grudge till now. Maybe it's time to let loose and dance like nobody is watching...

Getting in Shape

I started seeing a doctor for Weight Management Programme since 22 March 2011 recommened by a friend. It's a weekly monitoring session, cutting down on oily food, carbo & sugar intake, consistent exercise and on medication. I managed to loose 6kgs in 2 months and still on the programme until end of June.

Currently, I am weighing at 56kgs and my BMI has reached normal from overweight... Just looking forward to loose at least another 5 kgs to achieve the ideal weight.

The Worst Green Salad Ever!

I went to Secret Recipe, Warisan Square-Kota Kinablu with a two colleagues of mine on 27 April for dinner (they were having dessert as they have eaten elsewhere).

The restaurant was very successful in making the worst green salad ever... I felt really pathetic when I ate it trying to imagine the tomatoes were Salmon instead...

2nd novel of the year...

During my trip to Bario on 29 March 2011, I noticed 2 people were reading the same novel called The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest. The two people that were reading the novel were a Kelabit lady and another Swedish lady if not mistaken.

Well, since according to available statistics, the population in Bario is of almost 1,000 people and 2 of them were reading the novel, it must be something good. It interest me to find out more about the book and why is it so special. I found the novel when I was going to Bali in LCCT (which was a continuos schedule after the highland trip) and bought it straight away even before I googled it.

I read random novels which are on recommended shelfs in bookstore or brought back by my siblings including Harry Potter and by writers I know such as John Grisham, Dean Koontz and Danielle Steel. I don't really have a single friend who read like crazy that will actually introduce good novels to me or even passionately conversing about books or writers. ZERO to be exact. I pickup reading when my sister's friend left a box of novels at our home when he left to his hometown. Even until now, I've not read more than 30 novels but am trying to add in the reading habit into my lifestyle instead of sitting in front of the computer and by the time in bed, i only managed to read 1 or 2 lines before I fall asleep...

Oh well, after some online research, I found out that The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest is actually the third book by Stieg Larsson and published posthumously after his death by heart-attack in 2004. This book is also preceded by The Girl Who Played With Fire.

In Sweden, they even made movies out of his book and the poster of the latest one is shown below.

My bathroom welcome you!

This is a backdated post as I was procrastinating when it came to showing off what have visited my bathroom through the seawage tank... Apparently, no one dares to use the toilet to 'bank-in' anymore.

It all happened when I was on travelling to KL and my aunt found it strange that the bathroom was messy and some black marks everywhere (She thought it was a GHOST)... When I got back, I heard sound from the bathroom and asked my aunt to accompany me to check it out.. We had a shock of our lifes by mistakenly thought it was a snake since she only saw it's head poped out from the toilet bowl and screamed! I also screamed without seeing anything and both of us shut the bathroom door and ran for our lifes... Called 991 for help but they said they can't do anything if the reptile was not visible... =__________________=

With my somewhat briliant mind, I managed to trap it and let it out to the back of house the with The Papa's manly act.

The culprit was actually a MONITOR LIZARD that loves to play in my bathroom...

Journey to the Heart of Borneo

For the past few weeks, my schedule had been packed with adventurous trips especially the journey to Long Bawan with my colleagues and the community leaders from the Heart of Borneo. I learnt alot from everybody and was really fortunate to be experiencing the whole journey.

Xian Ding Wei – The Spring

I went to watch Shaolin with Crispin on 15 February since it was a public holiday and we haven’t catchup for a while. This is one of the best movie I’ve watched so far since last year…

After movie, we went for dinner at Xian Ding Wei at The Spring. It’s a new Taiwanese Cuisine Restaurant on the ground floor of the shopping mall. The restaurant has nice decoration and there’s quite a lot of people. It gave me a great impression on the place. However, ice-blender at the counter was a turned off because it beat the background music…

We ordered set meal. Each came with mini appetizer, soup, rice and the main dish. Basically everything was the same except for the main dish. Crispin ordered Sweet and Sour Pork and I ordered braised vegetable with pork… Ya we’re big fan of PORK!!! Hehehe. The Sweet and Sour Pork was quite nice but the braised vegetable with pork was bit too mild and tasteless for me but I think dad will like it.

Valentine's Day

I can’t remember what I got for last year’s Valentines coz I chose to forget it.. or perhaps I really didn’t get anything… I can’t recall coz it’s too troublesome to remember.

This year, was a dinner in Magenta 2 days before Valentines and a simple bouquet of roses but no gift.

It’s sometimes funny how men’s brain work. But luckily women are geniuses, we have the power to persuade for gifts whole year round instead of on Valentine’s day only.. *hint*hint*

Chinese New Year Trip 2011

This year, me & The Papa flew to KL to unite with the rest of the family except for Jeremy of course as he had to work and Corina for she had to go back to her husband’s family home in Sibu.

On the First day of CNY

First of all, I must curse my siblings for asking me & The Papa to bring over 1001 things especially the heavy 1Kg raw Kolo Mee & 2 bottles of whiskeys… Apart from that, everything went smoothly. We took 6.00am flight on 1^st day of Chinese New Year so we can reach Kampar earlier.

When we reached KLIA, to my surprise Noon asked me to drive another 2.5 hours to Kampar and in total I was in a vehicle for more than 5 hours and I was really tired and hungry when we reached Kampar…

New Year.. New Job..

I joined an NGO, Kuching office on 10^th January and since then I have travelled 2 times which is to Sabah for training and to PJ Office for induction. Life has been really different from hotel line. I still have so much to learn as I am really not familiar with the projects that the organization is working hard on. It has been fun working with Kuching colleagues and they are all kind and nice people.

I am going to be on the move again to Jakarta, Pontianak and Kuala Lumpur end of this month for 2 weeks… I have been envying my friends who travel a lot at work and now I am in the position when the job requires travelling.

My only worry is my dad and the pets. He will be alone at home with the pets… and Iwan has also been infected with ear infection since I came back from travelling. Dad will be sooooo… lonely when I am on travelling. I just hope it gets better when mum comes back in April.

Every year, I get more and more unexcited when it’s near to my birthday coz last year at this time round, I had the lousiest relationship moment and it didn’t last for another month before it ended. That was why I was not in the mood last year but people cheered me up with surprises.

This year, I am not in the mood because of the busy tarts baking session and The BF is not mushy type and bought me a pressie that I chosed myself during KK trip. So this year’s birthday as usual, I didn’t plan for any birthday dinner or party. Sounds pathetic but it’s not cause birthday is just another reason to party and I prefer to stay calm at my own Zen and nothing is wrong with that. :P

I felt joyful to see happy faces especially on their wedding day. Everyone seems to be getting married and it made me felt that it's time but I guess I have no plan to get married anytime till I'm 30 so why wna rush? hmmmmm...... we'll never know!

Movie Day

I went to movie at MBO with my dad on Friday morning since I was on a week leave before I started the new work. We went for Season of the Witch and to be honest, the movie was not great at all especially extreme slow story line in only 1 hour 30 minutes or slightly more.

Before movie, we had lunch at Ting’s Noodle (Spring Branch). Dad said the dishes were too salty but I think it’s quite reasonable since dad has a very mild taste by nature.

Well I think this will be the last time dad and I will go for movie in MBO because there’s a lot of climbing to do before reaching the Cineplex itself which I’ve just realized when looking at dad climbing and complaining about the staircases. It’s really quite hard to please my Papa but I enjoy spending time with him. :)

Chinese New Year Pineapple Tarts for Sale!

I've always love to eat one of those 'Melts in Your Mouth' pineapple tarts and couple years ago, I tried baking it myself with some help from the recipe I got through google search and it worked out quite well. Back then, I baked some for eating pleasure and shared with my friends, relatives and colleagues coz good things are meant to be shared!

Since I will not start working until 10 January and Chinese New Year is so near, Angela suggested I should bake pineapple tarts for sale and she would be my first customer coz she just missed the taste of it. By posting the picture in Facebook (Click Here) informing most of my close friends yesterday, I now have 15 orders and it will definitely increase as I still have to bake for myself..

I have bought 20pcs pineapple and did the pineapple peeling and blending work yesterday. Such a tiring work.. hehe. The first batch of the baked pineapple tarts should be available from tomorrow onwards selling at RM20 for 50pcs.

The secret of why it is so irresistible is because of of two elements which are

100% Golden Churn Butter

100% Fresh Pineapple

How does the pineapple tarts look like,

New Years Eve BBQ Pot Luck Party

First post of the year!

It has been more than 3 years since I moved here and have never invited anyone for any house warming or anything and have been traveling for most of the Chinese New Years..

Since I'm in the mood and the home is quite empty (Only me and The Papa), I've invited some close friends and relatives for a BBQ pot luck party on... 31st December 2010.

First Great Help

The first crowd who came were Chiao Fang, Angela and the kids. Dad was very amazed with how talkative they are.. I am sure my niece will be like that in a few years. hehe the two gurls helped me with setting up the tables and washing the glasses etc.

Second Great Help

The second crowd was Ellen and the hubby Justin. They helped me to prepare the BBQ area as well as 'Penggang' the lamb, chicken wing and luncheon meat. Yuhuu!

Third Great Help

The few other people who had also been helping were Onga Ko, Nelson, Siew Phing & Fung Fung with some clearing and dish washing.

Without all these people, I would have been dead after the first hour... So lucky and very grateful to have helpful, caring and bubbly friends and relatives.... It's always nice to have a simple gathering like this and dad was very happy with the kids around. Overall, everyone was happy I guess but so sorry to those whom I can't entertained enough and thanks for coming! Here's some of the photos taken: -

All these people made me feel so special in December with shower of gifts and companionship.

In December, I tried to cherish every moment and the person I ate the most lunch with in December is the one sitting on the right... This photo was taken in Verinice.

Had the best Chinese Bacon & Egg Sandwich made from the heart.... Lotsa tomato sauce. Reminded me of childhood recess burger which my dad proudly made every morning. I always brought it back in piece and let it grew fungus in my school bag until mum found out and that's when I had some of my dramatic days.

Plus a few little bags to keep my money... 2011 looks promising. With so many purses, it requires so much cash!

It's either something for Xmas or for farewell but the most important thing is, I love them all..

I'm feeling fat

Oh my god.. I am putting on weight seriously coz I can't think of anything besides eating... OK from tomorrow onwards, I have to start a very strict diet again...

As one of my colleague said... You shouldn't worry what you eat between Thanksgiving and Christmas but instead you should worry about what you eat Between Christmas and Thanksgiving! It's quite true though.. hahaha and so I didn't worry that much and ended up like this..... DAMN...

And now I am start worrying coz Xmas is over..

Well at least wait till the next PARTY with some of my relatives, besties and close friends!

Farewell Lunch @ Causeway Bay

So... I'll be leaving Pullman Kuching soon and my last day falls on 30 Dec, my farewell lunch is about 2 weeks earlier which is today, 15 Dec. Well, I don't mind though coz sooner or later doesn't matter as only the effort counts. In Hokkien we always say 'Wu Sim Tu Ho'

The Brand New Car - 2011

I've always love Peugeot and with the new Peugeot 207 sedan which is Malaysia assembled, the price is slightly lower than some of the over-priced and over-popular car in the country... I have always never been the 'follow the crowd' type of person and this car is not as overloaded in the street as Malaysian Made car or some of the IN Japanese brand on the road. But people are concerning about the spare parts and maintenance cost... For me, it's all about LUCK when you buy anything at all even when it come to house, computer, hand phone etc...

Oh well, it's just a plan to look ahead to accomplish my next year's resolution No.2 which is To get a Brand New Car. Looking at beginning of April... but it doesn't mean that I won't change my mind coz I am a woman after all! he he he

On first day of December

On first day of December, it's World's AIDS day... all my colleagues were wearing red ribbon including myself...

On first day of December, it's also the Annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony and all my colleagues were there to witness the jolly event... I on the other hand was asked to do an impromptu welcome note and it went alright i guess since most of the people that came were either hotel guests, my colleagues, the invited guests from charitable homes, my friends and my FB friends included..he he he... all the lovely people..

December is coming....

Well it's another December soon and Xmas is coming again. As far as I know... my this year's resolution has not been achieved much.. Let's look at it again.. picked from 2009 :-

1) To start going to Yoga class again (TOOK UP AEROBIC CLASSES INSTEAD)

2) Dance.. at least once a week (FAILED... I FEEL LIKE I'VE BEEN DANCING INSIDE ME ONLY.. LOL)

3) Lamination floor for the studio & Installing AC (NOT DONE... RENTED OUT INSTEAD)

4) Must buy a surf board in Bali this trip (NOT DONE... CHANGED OF MINE BUT GOING AGAIN IN 2011... LOL)

5) Get a new lap top by middle of the year (DONE)

6) Get a new camera (CONSIDER IT DONE... GETTING IT IN DECEMBER)

7) Despite all the above, to save enough money for 2011's holiday trip to.... (DONE... BANGKOK & KOH PANGANG IN OCT 2011)

8) & Finally to do better in what I am doing now. (DONE.... There will be a big change of life on 10th January 2011)

Looking at it.... it's quite reasonable. I will make my next year's resolution early coz everyone should plan early and get over with it instead of waiting for the last day of the year!

MY 2011'S RESOLUTION!

1) Get a MAC Book.. Need to start brushing up my illustrator and photoshop skills

2) Get a Brand New Car

3) Enroll to a Tailoring Class.. who knows you'll be hearing designer brand in 5 years! LOL

4) To reach and maintain below 55Kgs

5) To pay all my bills on time... (I've always procastinate!)

5 resolutions are enough for next year!

Can I write?

Someone recently asked me if I like writing.

That is a good question indeed.

In fact, I think I have phobia about writing but slowly overcoming it and enjoy doing it and sometimes it does come naturally plus with the great help of 'SHIFT + F7' it made the thesaurus more handy.

All these is because of my personal lack of confidence when I first joined PR Department in the previous company. Before I joined, I've always seen PR as something difficult and it was a challenge that I decided to transfer from a Secretary to Director of Finance to a Public Relations Assistant. Socializing, communication with people in a right manner, how to be diplomatic, how to tackle story angles that you want to be featured by the media, invitations, standards of collateral and drafting press releases was especially hard for me that time as I had zero knowledge of what's right and what's wrong, what kind of style had to be used and what not...

Throughout my employment, there was even one particular person that actually said I can't write and that writing should starts from young age and a natural passion, I made a lot of grammatical error in my blog (blog is not even serious for me... ) bla bla bla bla bla bla. At that time, I was 120% demotivated to write because there's no proper guide or training but critics instead. She made me believe that I had not much hope in my PR career.

More than 1 year ago, I took the courage to go for an interview. I mentioned clearly during the interview that particularly in writing, I had a lot to improve (and yes, this was how inconfident I was). However, the interviewer told me something that sounded like, 'Well, that's just technical. I am sure we can work around it.' and that actually brighten up my life. I really cherish the opportunity given to me that time and thanks to him, I overcame my fear and gained confidence in a lot of things.

Someone from the media also once told me... There's nobody that can't write if they are properly trained and besides, practice made better!

Back to the question... my answer would be: I DIDN'T DARE TO LIKE IT but now YES!
